Featured Writers: The Write-On Writers

Write-On Writers of Coshocton was formed in the late 1990’s through the encouragement of Pam Moore, now an editor for Holmes County Bargain Hunter, and her mother, Madge Saunders of Coshocton. Madge, Write-On Writers’ most published member, recently celebrated her 97th birthday. In 2011, the groups name was changed to the Write-On Writers Guild. The guild’s specialty and craft is words.

A core group of 10-15 guild members with diverse educational and occupational backgrounds meets the first Monday of every month at Coshocton Public Library from 6-8 PM to encourage each others writing endeavors that range from non-fiction, to fiction, to poetry. New members and visitors are always welcome.

The Write-On Writers are host for the Ohio Poetry Association Picnic on Saturday July 16, 2011 at the Pomerene Center for the Arts in Coshocton from 12-3 PM. All are welcome. See http://www.writeonwriters.org/ for more information about the group and the picnic.

Featured Musician: Roger Lehman

Roger Lehman has been composing, recording, and performing original material for over 30 years. He has done everything from recording soundtracks for Cable TV Fishing Programs to performing with The Crystals (from the Motown era), Lester Flatt (of Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs), and the great Blues Harmonica player Charlie Musselwhite . He performs solo playing Finger Style Acoustic Guitar, Piano, and Singing. He also performs with his Instrumental Duet (Piano & Woodwinds) and his 4-piece Jazz Quartet.

An open-mic will follow the evening's events.

On the heels of her winning, I corresponded with her to find out more about the collection and her writing process.  CS: First of all, congratulations on the award! Having read Invisible Fish, I know this is an honor that is well-deserved. How does it feel to have your name among past winners such as Mary Oliver, David Baker, and David Citino? SG: I was truly surprised to win this award, Chuck. I did some research after the fact and learned about the history of the award. What an honor to be part of this venerable Ohio poet lineage! I already own a few of the books on the list, not realizing the authors had previously won the award. And although I have many of Mary Oliver’s books, Twelve Moons (winner in 1980) was not among
